How to DIY an Ashwagandha Tincture

Ingredients:

1 part dried Ashwagandha root

4 parts 80 to 100 proof vodka

You can make an alcohol tincture with either fresh or dry herbs, but one advantage of using fresh herbs is that the alcohol preserves the fresh medicine, which may be lost in dry herbs. When using fresh herbs, fill a jar all the way to the top with plant matter (cut into smaller pieces if possible) and cover with alcohol.
You'll need either 80 or 100 proof alcohol. Because half the proof equals the percentage of alcohol, 80 proof contains 40% alcohol (and 60 percent water). Allow the tincture to sit for at least 4-6 weeks, or one lunar cycle.
Keep your tincture in a cool, dry place and feel free to shake it every day or every few days to keep the plant matter thoroughly mixed in with the alcohol and to infuse some of your own energy into the medicine. Make a note of the name and date on the jar.

Timeline

The Ashwagandha should be steeped in alcohol for at least two weeks, but it can be steeped for up to four months.

The longer it steeps, the stronger the tincture becomes. And don't forget to shake it every day. When you're satisfied that your tincture is finished, carefully transfer it to cobalt glass bottles with droppers for easy dispensing.

How to Take a Tincture

If you are not bothered by taking a tincture straight from the bottle, simply fill up the dropper and squeeze it into your mouth.

You can also hold drops of the tincture under your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing.

If tasting alcohol bothers you or if you want to avoid consuming alcohol entirely, simply add one dropper to 4 ounces of water and allow enough time for any harmful alcoholic content to evaporate out.

Tincture vs. Supplements

Because they can conceal unpleasant-tasting herbs, capsules are a convenient method of herbal therapy. On the other hand, they aren't always as potent or absorbable as tinctures.

The bitterness of herbal medicine is often "disguised" by capsules. The fact that most people will not hesitate to use a capsule, increases the wide range of adoption for herbal therapy. Moreover, capsules are simple and inexpensive to transport - they rarely require any special precautions except in extremely hot temperatures where melting can happen.

Compared to capsules, tinctures are much more potent. Their popularity has grown in recent years as people become aware of the benefits they offer. Tinctures contain a high concentration of herbal extracts that have been soaked in alcohol and most likely will take on some color and scent from the herbs used to make them.

What is Ashwagandha?

what is ashwagandha?

Ayurveda is a holistic system that promotes wellness through the use of natural remedies. Withania Somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha, is an Ayurvedic herb that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to promote well-being. It's often referred to as Indian ginseng because it looks so similar--but its healing powers are much stronger than Asian herbs of the same name!

Ashwagandha is a plant that can be consumed as a tea or ground into powder. Consuming this herb regularly will provide you with benefits such as: improved sleep, decreased stress levels, and more energy among many others.

Benefits

Helps with Fertility

The herb Ashwagandha has been shown to increase male and female fertility.

It has also been used to treat low sperm motility and infertility in men.

One of the most well-known advantages is its ability to assist people suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). When men take this herbal remedy on a regular basis, it works wonders for their symptoms, increasing their healthy testosterone levels resulting in an improved sex life.

That's just one of the many instances Ashwagandha promotes overall health and wellness!

Immunity

Ashwagandha is a powerful herb that can aid in hormone regulation. The herb has been shown to help with stress relief, which can lead to better immune health.

When you are stressed, your body produces a large amount of hormones that are harmful. Ashwagandha helps to regulate these hormones and reduce stress, which improves your overall well-being and reduces the amount of wear and tear on your body.

Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety can be a major issue for many people, who may experience symptoms like depression, insomnia and anxiety.

Reducing cortisol levels in the body is one way to combat stress-related health problems such as weight gain, less immunity or more.

You could expect these side effects of long periods of chronic stress to happen when it is not dealt with properly!

The herb Ashwagandha has been shown to help reduce cortisol levels in the body because it contains natural anti-depressant properties.

Sleep and Relaxation

Ashwagandha has been used for centuries to promote relaxation and ease feelings of anxiety. Ashwagandha is said to calm the nervous system, allowing the body's tension and restlessness to naturally release- one study found that taking it in capsule form helped improve both sleep quality and sleep duration in adults with insomnia.
